Native trees are the foundation of healthy ecosystems. Compared to the cloned ornamental trees often produced by industrial nurseries, seed-propagated native trees provide vastly greater ecological value.
These trees support birds, insects, pollinators, and soil organisms that depend on the intricate relationships between native species and their environments.

At Nagog Hill Orchard, a wide diversity of native trees and shrubs will be grown from seed, including species such as:
- Oaks
- Hickories
- Sassafras
- Black walnut
- American hornbeam
- Eastern redbud
- Hackberry
- American basswood
- Sourwood
- Black gum
- Striped maple
- Bald cypress
- Red mulberry
By growing these trees locally, the farm will help restore landscapes with species that are adapted to the climate, soils, and ecological conditions of New England.
These trees will live on site for several years before being planted elsewhere, providing habitat, nectar, and food for birds and pollinators during their time at the farm.
